Classic Vacations has released its inaugural luxury travel trends report last year, revealing how affluent travelers are reimagining their journeys with greater intention and personalization.

The findings, based on a survey of travel advisors across major consortia networks including Travel Leaders Network, Virtuoso and Signature, highlight a decisive shift away from conventional tourism toward transformative, meaningful experiences.

According to Melissa Krueger, CEO of Classic Vacations, advisors are witnessing luxury travelers deliberately move beyond traditional destinations and standard itineraries.

"Advisors are seeing a clear shift in how luxury travelers explore the world," said Krueger, emphasizing that today's discerning travelers seek experiences that resonate on a deeper level.

Leading this evolution are "whycations," purpose-led trips where personal significance trumps sightseeing checklists. Travelers are choosing immersive itineraries, extended stays and quietly luxurious retreats that foster genuine connection. A notable expression of this trend is heritage or roots tourism, where travelers visit ancestral destinations through multigenerational journeys centered on shared history and identity.

Wellness travel continues its surge through what advisors call "hushpitality," low-stimulus escapes emphasizing peace, nature and mental restoration.

Related concepts include "dead zoning" for device-free breaks, "blue-mind" ocean retreats and "glow-cations" focused on spa treatments. These restorative experiences allow travelers to return home recharged.

Personalization has become the new standard in luxury travel. Bespoke itineraries featuring micro-luxury touches such as premier suite upgrades, private transfers and tailored experiences are increasingly expected. "Suite-cations" and high-impact "micro-cations" reflect travelers' desires for comfort, exclusivity and meaningful enhancements.

Group travel is also evolving as travelers prioritize shared experiences.

"Bestie-moons," buddy-moons and fan-fueled trips tied to concerts or sporting events are gaining popularity.

Families embrace "kidfluence," allowing children to shape itineraries, while skip-generation trips remain popular for grandparent-grandchild bonding.

Finally, a renewed YOLO mindset is inspiring travelers to pursue long-imagined bucket-list destinations with a "why wait?" attitude, reflecting lingering post-pandemic effects and a determination to make up for lost time.
