About Back Roads Touring

With over a quarter-century of experience bringing small groups and tailor-made tours around the U.K. and Europe, Back-Roads Touring has earned its title, "the original small group touring company."

Limiting group sizes to 18 (22 on the Charming Waterways program) makes touring friendly, relaxed, and flexible. Chain hotels won't be found on itineraries, instead, intimate, character-filled properties abound - an assortment of traditional hostelries, medieval and renaissance castles, and fine country estates. Authentic, local restaurants can be visited as well with such a small group size.

Guests are mostly transported by purpose-built Mercedes Benz Sprinters, with many featuring such luxurious details as leather seats, fridges and panoramic windows and roofs.

Unlike typical, sizeable coaches seen in other tours, Back-Roads' mini-coaches have access to most places a car can go, meaning those medieval towns and villages as well as narrow Cornish lanes are explored with ease.

Independent exploration and socializing are also encouraged by Back-Roads. Free time is part of the schedule, which allows for a closer look at a locale and getting to know your fellow tourists and tour leader.
