Giving back to the surrounding community is something that is instilled in the nature of Playa Hotels & Resorts. As of September 2016, Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Hyatt Zilara Cancun began participating in the Youth Career Initiative (YCI), welcoming teens from nearby neighborhoods to train at the all-inclusive resort located in Cancun.
YCI is an employability program that provides disadvantaged youth the life and work skills they need to become successful. It is the mission of YCI to empower its students to make informed career choices and positive life decisions in hopes that they can build a brighter future for themselves. It provides struggling teens with another chance.
Leaving school and needing to financially support her family, one student named Mayra turned to YCI to help her build skills, flourish and take the first step in her career. Mayra was one of the first students to join the program at Hyatt Ziva Cancun, and we are so proud of her success story.

Mayra has graduated from the program and secured a role at Hyatt Ziva Cancun as a waitress. Furthermore, Mayra is continuing her education with the help of Hyatt Ziva Cancun. She is enrolled in English classes so she can better communicate with guests.
In looking back on her experience, Mayra told us, "When I first started the program, I was so excited about all the things I was about to learn. I hope the people who make it possible keep believing in young people as we truly value it."
In 2018, Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Hyatt Zilara Cancun will be bringing on its second generation of YCI students, and Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta and Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos are looking forward to welcoming YCI students for the first time.
